Zara’s goal is to provide high-class fashion to the everyday consumer, which translate to; we are more likely to afford Zara than Chanel. I have had a look at the typography used in their logo to see if it conveys their goal.
As I have looked at what kind of typography fashion magazines use to present themselves on their cover, I thought it was time for us to take a look on the inside – both online and print.
She has been described as a fashion icon ahead of her time. She was the first one to stop following fashion tendencies. Uncomfortable corsets, dull lacing, enormous hats and pretentious jewelry were long forgotten. Coco Chanel simply placed firm elegance against ever-changing fashion designs. Not only did she become famous for her designs, the typography has become just as famous as ‘the little black dress’.
Established in 1856, Burberry has a history of providing polar explorers and the army in both first and second world war with trench coats. In 1901 Burberry got their first logo, the Equestrian Knight, which got the text “Burberry” added underneath it in 1999 with a recognizable serif font. People knew the brand based on the Equestrian Knight and the classic serif font. However, in 2018, the typography changed and the Equestrian Knight is taken away. Does the new typography really fit the brand?
A well-known, and established fashion magazine. Harper’s Bazaar is not only known for being one of the earliest established fashion magazines in the world, they are known for the iconic typeface they have used on their covers. But the Didot typeface has not been a part of the magazine since their start in 1867.
When going to a store to look for a magazine, the first thing you see is their amazing cover with a beautiful model and the name of the magazine. And, high-end magazines all have one thing in common – they love a beautiful serif font. It makes fashion titles look elegant, timeless and luxurious. The most popular typography used on fashion magazines is serif fonts such as Bodoni or Didot, more specifically, the Didone.
The red sole made Christian Louboutin’s shoes famous, and are worn by several celebrities such as Madonna, Victoria Beckham and the Kardashian sisters. The shoes are on the wish list of many, but unless you have between $400 and $6000 to spend on shoes, they will most likely just stay a dream.
